Our Accommodations Counselor will help you with your search for an apartment in Montreal. This service offers you:

Access to the housing file for reference;

Assisting in house hunting, provided you tell us your needs.

You will have access to a database of available accommodations of a variety of types and sizes such as students with apartments to share, rooms in private homes, and self-contained apartments varying from one room to large flats.

There are many rules and regulations regarding landlords and tenants. It is useful to know what questions to ask and what to check for when visiting an apartment. Off-campus housing cannot be held or rented by anyone on your behalf. Only you can determine the suitability of accommodations. Also, it is not possible to rent by mail or telephone. You must inspect accommodations in person.

Estimated Lodging Cost (in Canadian Dollars)

Rents vary from building to building, depending on age, condition and location. In general, apartments are not furnished, but most of them are equipped with refrigerator and stove. If electricity and heat are not included in the cost of the rent, you will have to cover the cost of these utilities. Typical monthly rents are:

Single room $400.00 to $450.00 per month
(lodging where kitchen and/or bathroom is shared with others tenants)
Independent apartments or flats
(with private kitchen and bathroom)
One to two rooms 450.00 to $550.00 per month
Three rooms $550.00 to $650.00 per month
Four rooms $650.00 to $800.00 per month
Five to nine rooms $800.00 and up

These costs are for apartments outside the downtown area. Downtown, near the College, such cost will be higher by an average of $50.00 more per month. Most of the time, the cost of rent includes refrigerator, stove, electricity, heat and hot water.
